Artists' Biography
Pou Ataata first came together to compose and record a mesmerising soundtrack for Kathleen Galleger's groundbreaking film 'Te Reporepo'. Members of this talented group come from a diverse range of musical backgrounds. The original line-up consisted of acclaimed singer-songwriter Lisa Tui Jonathan, Cellist Nicole Reddington, and Taonga Pūoro specialist Mahina Kingi-Kaui. Through the process of creating the film's unique soundscapes, they discovered an exciting common ground and have been inspired to continue creating music together. The group has recently been augmented by the addition of amazing multi-instrumentalist and composer Pieta Hextall. Their performances to date have included Te Puna o Waiwhetū Christchurch Art Gallery, and Off Centre and Matariki celebrations hosted by Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre.
Pou Ataata live performances offer an affirming message of care for Papatuanuku, celebrating our uniqueness and sharing it through the beauty and profound impact of Taonga Pūoro and music.
