I am an experienced and qualified music educator with a passion for fostering musical growth and creativity. I hold a Master of Music degree from the Te Kōki New Zealand School of Music (2012) and a Master of Teaching & Learning in Primary Education from the University of Canterbury (2018). With over 10 years of teaching experience, I have worked with students of all ages in private lessons as well as in various school settings.
I am a fully registered teacher, and I currently operate a private teaching studio while also working at the Christchurch School of Music. From 2022 to 2024, I served as the Director of Music at Chisnallwood Intermediate School, where I managed a dynamic and busy music department. My role involved directing a wide range of ensembles, including rock bands, orchestras, concert bands, string ensembles, brass ensembles, chamber music groups, marimba ensembles, recorder and ukulele groups, choirs, as well as running courses in computer music, songwriting, composition, and music theory. In addition to ensemble leadership, I was responsible for the day-to-day administration of the department, event management, and marketing.
I am an active member of the Music Education Canterbury committee, where I contribute to the development and support of music education in the region.
I specialize in teaching primary and intermediate-aged students, although I am happy to work with learners of all ages. My lessons focus on building strong technical skills, enhancing musicality, developing performance abilities, and encouraging creativity through composition & improvisation. Above all, I aim to instill a love of music in every student.
